Retro-FORTIFIED Roof vs A New Roof

Choosing to retrofit your existing roof to achieve FORTIFIED Roof status is an attractive option for homeowners who want to avoid the mess and expense of having a new FORTIFIED Roof installed. If you’re considering upgrading your roof to qualify for FORTIFIED Roof certification, here are some great reasons to choose retrofitting.

Less time and inspections are required. Typically, one day install.

This opens the FORTIFIED designation to a much wider range of roof types, such as metal roofs, Spanish tiles, slate, etc.

Save up to weeks of aggravation and thousands of dollars by not needing to remove and reinstall solar panels.

Opportunity for lower-income homeowners to obtain FORTIFIED Roofs where none previously existed.

Empower homeowners to achieve FORTIFIED Roof standards for various reasons that may currently keep them from moving forward.

Your Roof FORTIFIED Fast

Many Louisiana homeowners don’t need to have a brand new roof installed to qualify for FORTIFIED Roof certification and the significant insurance discounts that come with it. For many homeowners, having their existing roof retrofit, or as we like to say “Retro-FORTIFIED” is faster, easier, much less expensive, and provides equivalent protection during severe weather events and hurricanes.

Retrofit FORTIFIED Roof: Spray Polyurethane Foam Satisfies The Top Three

When it comes to satisfying fortification requirements for every level of roof/home fortification, no other single product ticks as many boxes on the list as spray polyurethane foam insulation. Click here to read the FORTIFIED Roof page.

In one application of spray foam insulation along all of the roof decking and roof rafter seams, you achieve Enhanced Roof Deck Attachment, Sealed Roof Deck, and Locked Down Roof Edges. Unless you have a top-tier roof installed and every component meets the program requirements, you’re going to need spray foam insulation installed.

Louisiana Fortify Homes Program

How Does The Louisiana Fortify Homes Program Work?

The Louisiana Fortify Homes Program/IBHS Fortified Homes program is essentially a three-step process that includes working with an approved FORTIFIED Evaluator, completing the required home improvements, and verification and certification. Depending on the level of fortification you choose, this process can take more or less time.

Evaluation

Your home will go through an initial evaluation by an approved FORTIFIED Evaluator. During this evaluation, you will be presented with options on what level of fortification you want to achieve and the required improvements.

Fortification

You complete the required improvements to achieve the fortification level. In almost every case, spray foam insulation must be installed on all of the seams in the roof deck and rafters. Spray foam is the water-tight “glue” that holds it all together.

Savings

After you complete your home improvements, your FORTIFIED Evaluator will certify your home and file the required paperwork, and you can contact your insurance company for significant homeowner’s insurance discounts.

A FORTIFIED Roof: It’s Better To Have It & Not Need It Than Need It And Not Have It

The protective measure guidelines are set by the Insurance Institute for Business & Home Safety and must undergo a FORTIFIED™ Evaluation.

Properties must meet eligibility criteria described in the 2020 FORTIFIED Standard and associated technical documents as published by the IBHS.
