HVAC Duct Testing
HVAC duct testing by our BPI certified technicians
Duct Leakage Testing
DE analysts use a duct blaster to pressurize a building’s ductwork system in order to determine the amount and location of duct leakage.
In addition to quantifying how leaky (or inefficient) a home’s HVAC ductwork is, Diversified Energy’s BPI certified professionals can clean and seal a home’s ductwork as part of a comprehensive service plan to maximize energy efficiency, provide cleaner indoor air quality, and uncover any potential health/safety concerns.
What Is A Duct Leakage Test?
HVAC duct testing involves sealing off your home’s heating and cooling ventilation system, then pressurizing it using a piece of diagnostic equipment called a Duct Blaster in order to determine how airtight, or leaky it is. Our BPI certified technicians firsts determine how much air pressure is escaping from the ductwork, then track down the locations of air loss, so it can properly be repaired or sealed.
The first step in duct testing is to close off all the HVAC supply and return air ducts into your home so that the only place air can escape is through leaks in the duct-work, connections, or your HVAC equipment itself. After the vents are sealed, a Duct Blaster is attached to the ductwork, typically at the return air vent, then the whole ventilation system is pressurized. The Duct Blaster then runs the pressure tests, so our technicians can learn how much air is leaking from the ventilation system. This provides our technicians with detailed duct leakage data and the scope of the problem.
Once the testing is complete, our technicians will run the Duct Blaster so they can inject fog into the duct-work and conduct a thorough visual inspection of the entire duct system. The fog pumped into the pressurized duct-work will escape everywhere that needs to be sealed. Based on the results of the duct testing and the volume and areas of duct leakage, our technicians will recommend the work necessary to properly seal and repair the duct-work. Duct repair recommendations can involve mastic sealing of connections & seams, metallic tape, or possibly complete duct system replacement.
How Much Does Duct Leakage Testing Cost?
HVAC duct testing depends on the number and size of HVAC systems that need to be tested, and the overall conditioned square footage of your home. Our duct testing service can also be integrated into our 360 Energy Audit, as well as performed in conjunction with any of our other diagnostic testing services.
Properly tested and sealed duct-work is a significant measure to improve the overall indoor air quality of your home. Don’t spend another day throwing your money and comfort away on leaky duct-work. Call Diversified Energy today.
How Much Can I Save By Having My Ducts Sealed?
The Environmental Protection Agency estimates that properly sealing your HVAC duct-work can save up to 25% or more on your cooling and heating bills. In fact, sealing your duct-work is one of the most cost-effective energy efficiency improvements you can make to your home. Plus, the payback is multiplied by the fact that you will have improved indoor air quality, reduced opportunities for mold and mildew growth, and improved comfort across your home.
Diversified Energy has been testing and properly sealing HVAC duct-work for almost two decades., and our BPI certified technicians are the best in business. Contact us today to have your home’s duct-work properly tested.
Who Needs Duct Testing Services?
Homeowners, builders and contractors all benefit from having professional HVAC duct testing on their homes. Our duct testing service can be used to identify problems in existing duct-work, or verify the performance of new or repaired duct-work.
Diversified Energy provides our advanced duct testing services as a stand-alone service, part of our 360 Energy Audit, for performance verification, and/or in conjunction with any other diagnostic or improvement service [duct cleaning, duct sealing]. When we also perform the duct sealing and repair services, we will run a second, or even third test to ensure that we have sealed every possible point of loss in your duct-work.
